Principal's Message

Welcome to Westchester Secondary Charter School!  We are an independent charter school started by local educators and community members, focused on creating a rigorous, personal and engaging educational community for our students.

The 2016-2017 school year will be our fourth year and we will serve over 270 students in grades 6-12. We opened September 3, 2013, with grades 6-9, and will graduate our first seniors this spring!. We are authorized by Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which means we're able to offer all the privileges of an independent school education (arts, sports, small student faculty ratio), but as a public school, are open to all students. We are building strong relationships with parents, local businesses, and community groups, all of whom recognize the need for a community-based secondary school for Westchester and its surrounding communities.

This year we will make our home at Horace Mann in the C-Building.  We look forward to developing strong relationships within this community for the benefit of our students and their families.

WSCS is a college prep, comprehensive secondary school that is designed to meet students where they are, making sure that each child has his or her academic needs met in a warm, humane environment.  Our classes average 25.

"Comprehensive" means that we cover all subjects, including arts, humanities, foreign languages, mathematics, science, and athletics.  We do not ask our students to specialize, but rather make sure that they have a firm foundation in all subjects, allowing them greater options for college and the working world.
